Conchas Dam funds advance as Senate backs omnibus bill
The Senate approved the $324,000,000 Conchas Dam flood control measure for the Tucumcari project and sent it to the House for final action. The sprawling project, begun months ago with Army appropriations, will employ about 2,000 now and up to 4,000 at peak. Captain Hans Kramer of the Army Engineering Corps said plans are complete for the 230 foot high dam on the Bell Ranch 28 miles northwest of Tucumcari. The dam will impound over 800,000 acre feet of water with an initial three year funding of about 8.69 million dollars.

Woman Injured As Two Cars Crash At City Intersection
Mrs Meldon Leslie of 500 West Tenth Avenue was injured in a taxi cab collision with a coupe at Seventh Avenue and Jackson Street around noon. Senate backs off tax on taxes compromise plan
The Senate Finance Committee, after an 18 to 1 vote, agreed to reopen its day-old compromise on corporate taxation. Officials warn the change would cut revenue from 500 to 600 million dollars and may require an alternate funding device. A proposed 9 percent levy on undistributed earnings was considered but opposed by several members. The plan would tax total corporate net income at 18 percent and undistributed income at 7 percent while preserving capital stock and excess profits taxes and applying the 4 percent tax to dividends. The reopen decision followed finding that money used to pay taxes would itself be taxed at 7 percent if not distributed.
