Seamen Start Strike of Own Over Pay and Picket Lines
At Galveston on May 22 unlicensed seamen on American vessels walked off their jobs while licensed officers remained aboard. Clyde-Mallory longshoremen continued amid non union workers under guard. Compress truck drivers and other crews joined walkouts diverting cotton shipments. Lykes Brothers Ripley reported limited disruption and hoped for a quick settlement.
