City Engineer EF W Stanley reports fast negotiations with Santa Fe and Rock Island railroads to build the Fillmore Street subway. Plans sent to Rock Island offices in Chicago and local engineers for review. The project hinges on eliminating a corner track by dead ending rails on both sides of Fillmore Street to avoid a longer subway that could disrupt nearby business property.

Potter county officials and Chamber of Commerce highway director report the State Highway Commission rescinded a 28485 dollar grant to resurface eleven miles of Highway 33 from Amarillo to the Potter County line. Local figures say an 80 foot right of way was agreed after discussions between State Engineer Gilchrist and local leaders, but the commission allegedly seeks a 100 foot right of way.
W H Scott local dairyman pled guilty in district court to driving while intoxicated and received a two year suspended sentence. The state recommended the suspension. A second charge was dismissed and he was acquitted of a similar charge last year. It was the last case of the week as the jury panel was dismissed.
J L Morgan pleaded guilty before Justice J W Minter to theft of several small articles from a local store this morning and was fined $50 and costs.
NEW ORLEANS May 2 Rastwar Lieutenant Governor Paul M Lam Bremont died today at Touro Infirmary after illness.
Five men forced the Monfalcone to sea after storming the vessel Tuesday night and discharging the crew. A disgruntled Los Angeles gambler, Russian Soul, now commands the ship five miles off Seal Beach as gunfire erupted briefly with no injuries reported. Authorities consider the action part of a gambling faction feud.
As Pennsylvania returns roll in, Gifford Pinchot gains on Francis Shunk Brown for the Republican gubernatorial nomination with 182 districts yet to tally. Early results show Pinchot at 621,013 to Brown 609,164, while Davis leads Grundy in the Senate race. In Oklahoma, the Alluwe bank in Nowata County is robbed as staff and customers lie on the floor. approximately $2,000 taken before robbers flee in a waiting coupe.
In Milwaukee suburb St Francis a dormitory church fire at St Aemilian s orphanage trapped over 200. Three men and a girl driving by helped save about 190 orphans and sisters as flames engulfed the dormitory and church and sisters guided children down a single stair to safety.
Ed Summers charged with robbery with firearms in the Miller Pharmacy hold up on March 10. Trial postponed in district court as the prosecuting witness fell ill. A 40 person jury panel was ordered to report again next Thursday for the case.

The Methodist Episcopal Church South general conference in Dallas voted 257 to 124 not to substitute Bishop A Frank Smith of Houston for Bishop James Cannon of Washington on the Board of Temperance and Social Service. The conference then elected Cannon and other nominees by a viva voce vote.
