Pumps Contract May Be Awarded Next Tuesday

City officials expect awarding the pumps installation contract at Word Ranch wells to boost the water supply next Tuesday night. Bids were submitted last night and are under review by City Manager H. R. Smith along with bids for supplying book cases for the public library. A delegation urged the city commission for surface drainage on Eighth Avenue and Georgia Street after recent heavy rains. The Capitol and Blackstone Hotels requested lifting the one hour parking limit. Re zoning of 1812 Buchanan Street to D apartment was ordered while 2500 Fillmore Street re zoning was protested and action postponed until protest percentages are shown next Tuesday night.

Summer Term Registration Set for Amarillo Public Schools

Registration for the Amarillo Public Schools summer term will be Monday, June 2, led by R. A. Selby. The session runs June 2 to August 1, nine weeks with the equivalent of ten weeks work, five Saturday classes, 7:30 to 12:30. About 35 courses offered plus a band school. high school tuition is 12 dollars for one subject and 4 dollars per extra subject. Adults may enroll in typing, shorthand, bookkeeping and similar work.

Awards will be presented at a morning assembly at Amarillo High School for more than 250 students who represented the school in interscholastic activities this year. Palo Duro Canyon Photographer Contest Opens June Deadline

Amarillo Chamber of Commerce invites amateur photographers to enter the Palo Duro Canyon Contest before June 1. The event offers cash awards and merchandise prizes in two divisions, one for amateurs using others for development and printing and one for advanced amateurs who do all work. First prize pays $15 plus merchandise.

Car prowlers strip car of luggage in Amarillo

H P Thigpin of Thistle Utah, in Amarillo this morning, reported car prowlers took nearly 500 dollars worth of clothing and luggage from his vehicle. Police listed loot including expensive bags and eight pairs of ladies shoes after thieves shattered a ventilating window to gain entry in the downtown district.
