Boston hosted a mid century jubilee where 42 industrial chiefs from firms with assets totaling 24 billion dollars vowed to stabilize employment, create more jobs, and boost productivity. They urged market diversification, new facilities, better tools, and wider stock investment while criticizing regulations and taxation that hinder risk taking.
Maj. Gen. J H Atkinson challenged 300 service club members at the American Business Club luncheon in Amarillo urging civilian and military defense. He warned of a rising aggressive power with larger land forces, a formidable air arm and a submarine fleet to threaten world security, stressing unity with allies and the need for preparedness within the economy.

Police and fire inspectors questioned three men tied to the 1944 Hartford circus fire that killed 168 and injured 682. Ringling Brothers suspects Robert Segee, William Credlebaugh, and William Graham, all from Circleville Ohio, were identified with arson links. Segee was brought from East St. Louis for questioning. Us Weather Bureau reports fair weather across Amarillo and vicinity with cooler conditions tonight. Saturday will bring warmer temperatures after today’s high around 79 and a 46 overnight low. 24 hour period low was 50 with a high of 87 this morning. Partly cloudy conditions extend into West Texas with afternoon showers from Pecos Valley eastward and cooler readings in the Panhandle and South Plains. New MexicoExpect cooler along the northern border this afternoon and tonight with similar patterns through Saturday.
E. T. Dusty Miller says Ewald Johnson will be a free man at 4 this afternoon after sureties filed with the US deputy clerk. Johnson, freed earlier in the Tex Thornton slaying by a 47th District Court jury, is charged in federal court with transporting a stolen automobile across a state line with a $3,000 bond. His sister Antone Louis plans to take him to Munising Michigan, while his wife Diana Heaney Johnson awaits a possible $2,500 bond and return to Linwood California with her mother.
Mrs. R. Thompson aged 90, of Amarillo, received back and head bruises from a fall yesterday afternoon and is resting well. She has lived in Amarillo more than 40 years and stays with her daughter Mrs. D. W. Mays.
In Buffalo Oklahoma on May 19 ex convict Calvin Hanson, armed with a rifle and rattlesnakes, fought nightwatchman Albert Sawyer before being cornered near the river. Hanson, who had escaped from Beaver jail, was turned over to Harper County Sheriff J J Ownbey. Sawyer suffered cuts and bruises. Hanson previously fled from Beaver after jail bars were cut. He is wanted on FBI Mann Act charges and has a prior manslaughter sentence from San Quentin.
