Villa Claims May End Soon
Settlement of numerous American claims against Mexico hinges on Senate Foreign Relations Committee action on a new special claims convention signed in Mexico City April 24. Senator Cutting reports New Mexico residents’ claims from the Villista raid at Columbus in 1916 and other incidents are included. The plan calls for a lump sum payment by Mexico proportional to liability, with final figures set by a joint U S Mexico committee after Senate ratification.
