Petition City for Increase in Taxi Fares

A petition to raise Amarillo taxi fares was presented to the city commission. Attorney Ben Manning spoke for operators of 10-cent taxis, arguing the dime fare fails to cover depreciation on long trips. The plan seeks 10-cent fares within parts of the city and 20 cents beyond a certain boundary, while 10-cent rates would extend to Twenty-fourth Avenue. R C Nicholl of The Original 10-Cent Taxi Co said his firm did not seek rate changes and was not involved in the petition. He stated the company will keep their regular 10-cent service.
