A week after the Getile kidnapping bid, state authorities move to apply a new law to pursue justice. Officials say the measure expands penalties and streamlines prosecutions in kidnapping cases, signaling a tougher approach.
James Kirk Roy Williams and Larry Kerrigan pled guilty to kidnaping the Beverly Hills millionaire William F Gettle and were sentenced to life imprisonment under California’s kidnap law with possible parole. Two women Loretta Woody and Joan Burke remained jailed as prosecutors consider conspiracy charges. Gettle, elated, celebrated in court as he was moved to San Quentin later.

Washington experts join Arizona and Tucson authorities studying clues, including two desolate cans traced to rancher Steve Gollobe who reported them stolen May 13.

The Associated Press reports that a group of world powers led by the United States and Great Britain plans concerted measures to end the Chaco War between Paraguay and Bolivia. Possible steps include political, financial, and economic pressure, with the League of Nations possibly taking action. Both governments would be affected equally.
The body of Joe Taylor a 16 year old Quanah high school football player was recovered from Lake Pauline six miles southeast of Quanah early today. Doctors said cramps caused the death and Taylor who was said to be an excellent swimmer went to the lake with three companions to fish. One companion Mone witnessed the drowning.

Governor Gifford Pinchot conceded the Republican nomination race for Senator to David A. Reed and announced plans to telegram his congratulation to Reed as his principal opponent.
Oklahoma City May 16 The state election board removed Jack Walton a Turley farmer from the Democratic gubernatorial race amid sharp charges of trickery.
Mia FP. W. Armstrong of Plattsburg Missouri was re elected president of the Southern Baptist Women's Missionary Union at the closing session of its annual meeting in Fort Worth. All other officers were re elected.
Directos of the American Telephone & Telegraph Co declared the regular quarterly dividend of 2.25 dollars a share on the capital stock. Similar disbursements have been made since 1921.
Four survivors of the Nantucket lightship recount the collision in dense fog with the British liner Olympic off the Massachusetts coast. Seven men died as the Olympic plowed through the fog, sinking the lightship and leaving four missing crew members.
