Kings Bay Spitzbergen May 16 radio dispatches say the Italia under Umberto Nobile sends hourly updates. The airship faced fog and wind but remains aloft above Lenin Land heading to drop an ice anchor and land three crewmen. After a stop at Kings Bay the craft plans a return before Friday and a possible third leg toward Crocker Land northeast of Greenland.
The Fokker plane en route to San Francisco for passenger service will land in Wichita early Thursday morning and reach Amarillo Thursday evening after a weather delay forced the Indianapolis stop yesterday. It is one of three planes making the Pacific coast trip on different routes and will spend the night in Amarillo.

Dr George W Truett of Dallas was unanimously re elected president of the Southern Baptist convention at the opening session in Chattanooga He was nominated by Dr F C McConnell of Atlanta In his message he urged harmony and warned that discord in this hour of crisis would be a tragedy He stressed the need for revival over prosperity and urged unity to overcome unbelief and materialism with a strong moral and religious response against future challenges.
J. M. Simpson salesman for the Maverikke Clarke company suffered a broken arm when his car overturned on a highway yesterday afternoon. The arm was broken in two places. He was picked up by passing motorists and taken to Canyon before returning home.
William A. Shreeve resigns as Kansas City police chief after four years. Police commissioners announce no inquiry into a reported encapade at a south side home involving Shreeve and Mrs. Cheate. The chief telegraphed resignation from Denver after health rest ordered by a physician.
Prairie Oil and Gas officials told the city commission Amarillo Gas is not earning, delaying cheaper domestic rates and arguing they can profit only if industrial and domestic rates are favorable. Col. Montgomery and Jim Whittington defended proposed franchises, noting Wichita Falls industrial rates and the potential domestic supply details. The commission deferred action to study the proposals and required clarity on domestic gas plans.
In Birmingham Alabama on May 16 a Black axeman hacked Mrs Daisy Steinmetz to death and seriously wounded N J Priest as they slept. The intruder entered through a rear window and took money from Steinmetz and Priest. Police deem the motive robbery and a sister, Mrs Clara Robertson, narrowly frightened the intruder away.
