A pivotal figure in late Qing and early Republican politics he led revolutions and held offices including provisional president in 1911 and president of all China in 1921. He once faced kidnapping in London and secured release with British help.
Springfield Mass May 14 A charge that the Methodist church aided communism and the third international sparked an uproar at the Methodist Episcopal general conference. It was voted that Harry Ford editor of the Methodist Federation for Social Service and chairman of the Civil Liberties Union be beyond the conference jurisdiction.
A violent quake near Erzerum destroys several villages and ends about fifty lives. Reports from Constantinople detail widespread damage and missing residents as rescuers search ruined homes and aid reaches affected communities.

A raid on Mrs. Ethel Johnson’s home at 510 Grant Street after 11 pm resulted in four arrests. Officers report liquor and empty bottles seized. Arrested were Mrs Johnson, F C Barnett a truck driver, Carl McClellan and Thomas Jenkins taxi drivers. They shared the Johnson residence. The operation was authorized by Chief Clark Cain with officers Blitch Myrick and Webb. Prisoners turned over to federal agent R W Morton and U S commissioner Rolla Seales.

George F. McLellan presented Hanson post of the American Legion with a large copy of Woodrow Wilson's declaration of war against Germany. Members voted to frame and display the document in the legion home. Adjutant H. V. Elkins was authorized to obtain and frame the U S Constitution preamble.
