Reverend T Ferrier Hulme a fraternal delegate from the Wesleyan Methodist church Great Britain expressed hope that all sections of the Methodist church may unite into one body. Delegates from the British Wesleyan church and the United church of Canada attended the Kansas City Missouri conference reception. Texas Governor Dan Moody stayed the scheduled execution of Juan Flores of San Antonio from Friday to May 23 to investigate new evidence. Flores was convicted of murder. Berry's for dyeing.
A shipment of Safety Clad Buttons arrives for the Just Kids campaign. Children sign a pledge and bring it to The Globe office to receive a button, with a note that only a thousand buttons exist and signed names will be kept for the organization.
Amarillo committees report steady growth in the college fund as they pursue a large list of prospects. About $75 000 had been raised through Tuesday night with less than one quarter of the list covered. Board of City Development secretary manager Celene Harvey Haines says funds are coming in well and expects full collection soon. Dr R E L Morgan college president will be away briefly for a church committee meeting but will return as soon as possible.
The giant flying machine took on 125 gallons of gas at Bivins fields and received other services from Liest. Robert B. Gray managed the field. Walter Irvin of the Cooper-Irvin Motor Co. Ford distributor in the area called on servicemen. Lieutenant Grey noted more trans continental planes stopping weekly.
The Philomathean Debate Club presented a program during assembly at the high school this morning. Teachers were impersonated by Bob McKinney who mimicked Superintendent W. A. McIntosh. The performances were well carried out and the actors notable.
Reports from Tsunan describe Japanese troops engaging Chinese Nationalists to seize weapons and drive them from a held zone. Casualties include four Japanese killed and twenty wounded, with claims of Nationalist resistance and diplomatic mediation efforts.
The transcript of Col. Robert W. Stewart's Senate Teapot Dome testimony was sent to a federal grand jury as U S Attorney Leo Rover prepared to seek a perjury indictment. Senators Walsh and Nye praised John D Rockefeller Jr for urging Stewart's ouster from the Standard Oil Indiana chair.
Chicago May 10 Wheat futures slumped as much as six cents a bushel after an early rise. May delivery dropped to 1.59 and July to 1.55. The decline followed the government crop report showing higher domestic winter wheat output than expected.
The city commission postponed definite action on three gas franchise proposals by Jim Whittington Col George Montgomery and a third unnamed client for one week after Judge F B McGregor requested time for his clients to survey the field and present claims. Mayor Bivine said the panel was ready to act but debate over the delay continued with Whittington urging best interests of Amarillo and Walsh opposing the postponement.
A bank official disputes sensational claims that 1914 dimes are worth seven dollars, stating their value ranges from 1 cent to 12 cents. He notes 1894 and 1884 San Francisco dimes exist but 1914 dimes do not carry high value.
Gov Alfred E Smith testified before the Senate Funds committee that he spent no money or effort on his campaign and would not take time away from New York duties. He said no outside organization existed and that George Van Namee led any New York activities. Receipts and expenditures for the New York group left a balance of 21 218.7 % with loans and a $20 008 donation reported from F Kenny.
