Frederick Oklahoma was chosen as the 1932 convention city for the Northern Texas and Southern Oklahoma Peace Officers Association. The eighth annual meeting closes Thursday with a pistol contest after a barbecue at Jack Hall’s ranch. E T Smith of Hollis was re elected president, with Sheriff Thompson Am arillo as first vice president and Lynn Blackwood of Frederick as second vice president.
More than 200 Kentucky National Guard members arrived in Harlan as the first batch for duty in the coal fields. Officials planned movement into Evarts nine miles away amid reports of armed lookouts. Governor Sampson ordered the deployment. Colonel Dan Carrell to command the troops.
The mangled body of a man about 40 identified as R. P. Bales of Sayre was found on the Rock Island right of way three miles east of Conway. Coroner verdict says death by accident. A letter from Elk City was found with a salutation Dear Dad and a photo of three boys. Relatives unreached. Officials believe he fell from an east bound freight last night. The scene mirrors a prior similar death near Amarillo.

Seventy two people have sent $150 checks for the News-Globe special train to Mexico. 115 reservations exist but are not final until checks arrive. Fifty three more checks are needed by Sunday night to pay for the seven day trip including railroad, Pullman fare, meals and tips.
In Union Square New York soldiers and Marines moved through a crowd to remove an American flag from a Communist speaker’s stand during May Day events. The incident marked the day’s closest near clash as veterans Socialists and Communists gathered in the square.
James V. Foster confessed to arson that killed his wife and three children in Greely Colorado. He told Sheriff Wyatt he planned the act for a month and used gasoline to set beds afire, then poured gasoline on his wife as she woke.
Chicago May 7 two members of the Chicago Stock Exchange were expelled by the governing committee after a hearing that lasted until 2 A M. Charles L. Trumbull of Trumbull Wardell and Co. faced charges of unethical conduct and fictitious transactions. Harvey Cory, linked to the Trumbull firm though not a member, was expelled on the second count.
Amarillo was selected as the 1932 meeting place by the State Medical Association house of delegates. Dr. John H. Foster of Houston was named president-elect. Fort Worth was the only other city seeking the meeting.
Tragedy hung over Baylor University as Dr Samuel Palmer Brooks, the long time president, lay dying from internal cancer. Despite doctors predicting only days left, he dictated diplomas for the spring class and remained alert, with flowers filling his hospital room and telegrams pouring in from alumni worldwide.
Luther Berwick, 29, convicted of murder by a Houston jury and sentenced to three years after earlier death penalty was requested by the state and defense urged a suspended term. Jurors deliberated from 6 P M yesterday. Defense attorneys hailed the verdict and indicated no appeal. Earl Berwick, the defendant’s brother, greeted the jurors.
A conference of the interfraternal council and Supt. W. A. McIntosh is planned for late afternoon in the superintendent's office. They will present both sides of the high school fraternity matter in hopes of reaching a cooperative understanding. The likely outcome may be presented at this week's school board meeting.
In Chicago on May 7 Texas grain shippers contend the proposed June 1 rate schedule by the Interstate Commerce Commission unfairly advantages Kansas City area shippers. Frank A. Leffingwell of Dallas for Terminal Grain Co of Fort Worth asks consolidation with railroads' suit and notes differential rates favor Kansas City. Judge Lindley questions the Texas Kansas City implication.
John Manley, head of the Oklahoma Wheat Growers Association, estimate 1931 Oklahoma wheat crop at 52 million bushels and Texas at 45 million. He noted Oklahoma produced 32 million and Texas 20 million last year, based on current crop conditions.

Clarence P. McCoy Bennington Oklahoma school board treasurer is free on a 19000 dollar bond awaiting embezzlement charges for about 41997 dollars over five years. Bank officials T E Tarter and B Campbell of Bennington First National Bank face federal charges for about 30000 dollars allegedly embezzled.
Word reached Amarillo that Love Willis, brother of Mrs. E. B. Johnson, died last night in Kingston Oklahoma after an operation for pneumonia. Funeral services are set for Friday afternoon in Kingston.
Havre France May 7 Captain H Bailey says Ruth Nichols will attempt the St John Newfoundland to Le Bourget France ocean hop between May 20 and June 1. She will fly New York to St John first, refuel there, then cross about 14 hours at 230 miles per hour.
In Yuma Arizona on May 7, hearings on Mrs. William A. Lee's petition as sole heir of Hutton Bellah were postponed to May 16. Lee, who married Bellah in Wisconsin as William A. Lee, notes Bellah once owned the Yuma Evening Sentinel and previously ran an Altus Oklahoma paper. Bellah’s first wife and children reside in Los Angeles and others have papers claiming his estate.
The State Highway Commission awarded a contract for construction of a free bridge over the Red River between Jackson County Oklahoma and Wilbarger County Texas to W. S. Crawford of Dallas. The bid was $122,501.
In Hot Springs Arkansas on May 1 the National Congress of Parents and Teachers readied a resolution backing public censorship and operation of radio channels and removal of advertising. The body issued thirty resolutions guiding the children’s charter from the White House health and protection conference. One proposal urged cleaner movies and condemned indecent appeals in film advertising and blind booking.
