Freight Rate Hearings Open Before ICC Hearings on Increases
The Interstate Commerce Commission opened hearings on proposed rail freight rate hikes of about 1 billion dollars annually and a 25 percent increase slated for May 15. The weeklong proceedings reassess immediacy of need while re opening a 1942 rate case and considering a 3 to 6 percent rise. The 10 percent passenger increase would end six months after the war and the carriers did not seek further freight boosts.
