Loot recovered after Calvert bank robbery shootout
In Calvert Texas yesterday two bandits robbed Citizens State Bank of Calvert and were engaged by officers during a gun battle as they fled. One bandit was killed and the other Emmons was wounded and captured. nearly all of the about $5 000 taken was recovered. Cantrell was killed and Emmons wounded. Cantrell's son Clifton was briefly taken into custody earlier. The Texas State Bankers Association agreed to pay a $5 000 bounty for a dead bandit.

Officer slain and six wounded in Kentucky gun battle
Deputies patrolling a strike torn mine area near Harlan Kentucky were ambushed. One officer killed and six or more wounded as shots erupted from a barricade where about 30 men were entrenched. Deputy M Daniels died. Deputy George Dawn used a machine gun to fire on the barricade. Sheriff Blair dispatched 25 deputies to the scene. The battle followed prior week clashes during unionization efforts at Lack Mountain mine.

Explosion during surgery sparks $151000 suit in Los Angeles
Los Angeles May 5 A suit for 151000 seeks damages after an anaesthetic explosion in the lungs of Mrs Mina Maude Branton during surgery at a Hollywood hospital. Plaintiffs Harry Branton and his two sons Robert Allen and Ralph Harry sue Dr Charles A Warmer Dr Cora King Smith Dr G T Stout and nurse Adele Wilcox, though a coroner's jury later exonerated the doctors. Group Endorses Uniform Oil Law Ambition
