Five children aged seven to three suffocated in a refrigerated meat market showcase set in a backyard in Dumas. Charles Nichols Ralph Nichols and Allen Nichols brothers aged 7 4 and 3 along with Patsy Hills 6 and Dennis Hills 4 were found after 3 pm. Neighbors say they were playing in the case when a door blew shut trapping them and cutting off oxygen. The father of the Nichols children works for a construction company and the Hills father is with a drilling company at Dumas.

Banker Killed in Plane Crash Near Fredericksburg
David Cleveland Reed 65, a major stockholder in First National Bank of Austin, died in a Beechcraft crash near Orange Virginia while en route to Washington. Also killed were Gilbert Wilson, 37, of Pittsburg and Raymondville Texas. Injured was Claire King, 50, of Dallas. The crash occurred about 20 miles west of Fredericksburg with poor visibility. Virgil Patterson, bank president, called Reed a fine business associate and friend. Body expected to arrive in Austin Wednesday.
