The forecast for tonight and Wednesday is partly cloudy and colder. Today’s high 69 and low 50 degrees, echoing the year ago extremes of 50 and 22.
Florence Macbeth, acclaimed coloratura soprano and Chicago Opera star for eleven years, will perform at the Panhandle Music Festival in Amarillo. The festival dates move from April 13 17 to April 14 18 to accommodate her appearance on Saturday night April 18. Emil F Myers, sponsor, says the booking is a major coup and notes the higher cost of bringing Macbeth than the canceled Girvin's Little Symphony Orchestra engagement.
Special to The Globe reports Panhandle Rotary Club organized today at the Panhandle Inn with seventeen members. J Sid O’Keefe elected president, Joe Roremx secretary, Frank Faul treasurer. Charter expected in three weeks. Amarillo Rotarians and Rotary-Anns to attend the first evening meeting. District governor Dr. Parcells led the organization with assistance from Jeff Blackburn and others. This is the last club formed in the Thirteenth district after Galveston conference.
Berlin on March 31 reports Dr. Hermann Hoephof Ashoff a Democrat was chosen as premier of the Prussian government, succeeding Dr. Wilhelm Mars. The Amarillo Hotel's Coffee Shop promotes itself as Famous For Food, highlighting its role as the Panhandle's meeting place.
Washington report states President Coolidge remains unresponsive to calls for changing U S policy toward Russia. He sees no basis to reconsider recognizing the Soviet government and believes conditions for denial of recognition stay the same.
In San Francisco a 16 year old stenographer Dorothy Ellingson faces a sanity trial to determine if she is fit for defense in the murder of her mother Mrs Anna Ellingson. A new jury will decide if she comprehends court proceedings and can present an intelligible defense while psychistrist Dr Jay Don Ball testifies she is suffering from psychosis and was out of her mind at times.
Dallas county will conduct speedy trials for negligent homicide charges without awaiting grand jury action, announced Shelby Cox district attorney. Negligent homicide is misdemeanor class and does not require indictment by grand jury. Driving while intoxicated charges will be referred to the grand jury. Let's go to The Fair.
The Globe urges Amarillo voters to consider Lon Marrs candidacy for mayor, citing his past term when water rates rose from 50 to 75 cents and a prior auditorium bond sale at a discount. It warns of a $1,750,000 plan to revert rates and notes an overdraft in the city treasury after his mayoralty.
Morty men are trapped in the Montague colliery at Leobwood near Newcastle after a sudden inrush flooded the pit yesterday. Little hope is held for saving any of the men as scores of relatives, including many women, gather in the cold hours outside the pit head for news of survivors.
Castro County prepares for a massive April 1 rabbit drive with more than 6000 participants expected to herd thousands of rabbits into pens across the county. Delegations from nearly every Panhandle community join the effort followed by a barbecue and dinner after the drive concludes around 8 PM. Newsreel units plan to film the event for Path News and other services.
The Chesapeake and Ohio Railway company lease to the greater Nickel Plate system was formally approved by stockholders. The minority argued two thirds vote was required. American Warehouse company is listed in connection with merchandise storage.

Berlin March 1 The center party executive committee chose Dr Wilhelm Marx former chancellor to run for the German presidency in the second election to be held April 26 after the first ballot produced no choice.
