Amarillo Airman among four killed in Nagoya crash

An Amarillo airman Capt John F Dwight Jr 29 died in a military plane crash near Nagoya Japan Tuesday night The Air Force released the names of the other three victims Col Arthur V Jones Jr Tech Sgt Paul M Harris and a fourth whose name was withheld Dwight was a native of Amarillo a 1938 Amarillo High School graduate He entered the Air Force in 1942 earned his wings in 1942 served at various fields and later commanded an air field in Cincinnati He was adjutant at Nagoya Air Force Base at the time of his death Funeral plans were pending further word from the Air Force survivors include his mother Mrs John F Dwight Sr and other relatives listed on the Flier Page 4.

Bednasek’s Truth Drug Testimony Recalls Tragic Night

Dry Weather in Amarillo Not the Driest on Record

Amarillo chief meteorologist H. C. Winburn said the first quarter of 1950 was dry but not the driest. He cited 1943 when only .09 inch fell. 1903 04 saw .24 inch in Nov to Mar. 1949 50 had a half inch. A 69 day period from Oct 31 to Jan 8 and a 42 day stretch from Dec 31 to Feb 10 without measurable precipitation are noted. The forecast calls for more cloudiness and warmer weather today and tomorrow with cool nights continuing.

Rayburn seeks removal of hurtful aid amendments

Speaker Sam Rayburn demanded that the House strike two amendments from the 3.375 billion foreign aid bill. He faulted provisions tying aid to farm purchases and pressuring Britain by ending Irish partition. Rayburn predicted the Irish partition amendment would be rejected on a roll call.

Tech Band Here for Concert Tonight at Amarillo High

The 100 piece Texas Tech Concert Band and 40 member Tech Men's Glee Club perform at 8 pm in Amarillo High School Auditorium. Admission 25 or 50 cents. Proceeds split between Texas Tech and AHS with the AHS share aiding the Sandie Band for its May trip to the Band Festival in Enid Oklahoma.

Springfield veterinarian Dr. F D Gentry says Queenie a 40 pound mongrel has donated blood to 200 dogs over four years.
