Seventeen German manufacturers were arrested for copying Scotch whisky bottles and labels, accused of trademark imitation and harming British bootleg profits among Yankees. Calvin Petty of O'Donnell was shot dead by Ed Roberts at Roberts farm near O'Donnell. Two shots hit Petty in head and abdomen after a quarrel over a recent adultery complaint against Petty's brother. Roberts was moved to Lynn County jail to avert mob violence.
Sen. Burton K. Wheeler of Montana says the administration plotted to punish political enemies after his indictment for alleged office misuse and defrauding the government. He accuses officials of seeking to discredit critics and cites recent actions in Washington and a Michigan senator as proof of corruption concerns.
In Chicago Dr. Charles C. G. Fatman faces pressure as lawyers seek bail for William D. Shepherd in the so called million dollar germ murder case. Shepherd is accused of killing his ward Billy McClinchock to gain control of the estate. Stewart for Shepherd produced two affidavits to Judge Jacob Hopkins after bail rejection.
The Amarillo electorate faces a April 7 vote for a general manager. Endorsing Lee Bivins, the piece condemns Len Marrs as a career politician who raised water rates, oversaw a costly auditorium project, and left a city overdraft of 104 408.29. It urges voters to back a businesslike approach and warns homeowners to vote carefully.
W. Mellroy announced that the Dixon creek well will be swabbed this afternoon with output near 1,700 barrels and a pipeline connection planned soon. The 2,960 foot well sits in section 14 block Y Hutchinson county near the Twin Six and Warrick wells, expanding the local field.
Amarillo United Commercial Travelers plan to host the 1926 Grand Council convention. A committee led by J. J. Sanders Binch Kingsland and W. H. Kropkir will confer with the Board of City Development to secure the meeting. Local U C T members note it has been eleven years since the council met here and expect strong effort. Washington march 28 ricep John Jacob Rogers Republican Massachusetts died here tonight in Garfield hospital at 9 95 o clock from Hodgkins disease. Hodgkins linked a chronic inflammatory condition and a tumor. Mrs Rogers was alone at the bedside when the end came. Doctors at first diagnosed gall stones but feared to operate due to his weakened condition. Later they agreed he suffered from Hodgkins disease baffling medical science.
Milwaukee authorities report Gustave Witte aged 70 escaped restraints at a city hospital and jumped from a third story window. He died soon after from injuries sustained in the fall.
Kendron Wilds a seven year old boy was returned to his Oklahoma home after escaping chained ankles. He had burglarized a Shawnee grocery store and was placed in the yard today with ankle chains but slipped free. No trace of him had been found by tonie.
Hereford citizens voted 84 to 41 to issue bonds and raise lands totaling 126000 dollars to fund a modern high school. The structure will be brick and tile three stories high with gymnasium auditorium library and science facilities and is planned for occupancy by December 16 for the new term.
United States Senator James A. Reed told Missouri lawmakers that dropping the League of Nations would cost Democrats the election. He attacked the world court as political and linked anti League sentiments to Republican leadership, urging party unity to avoid defeat.
Two firefighters were hurt in a Milwaukee fire that caused several thousand dollars in damage to the Schwab stamp and gear company. The blaze began in a rubbish pile beside an overheated furnace. Also note a local advertising line about Mistiga and a hotel cafe claim stating Famous For Food.
In Loew's Park theater Homer Walters 30 shot Miss Lillian Tyler 28 at the pipe organ then killed himself. Witnesses said jealousy and a quarrel over Miss Tyler’s attention preceded the tragedy as the audience watched in stunned silence and two women fainted.
Detroit police dispersed about 300 communists who protested at the Polish consulate over the arrest of Stanislaw Lanzutsky a Polish parliament member. Consul Gruzka refused talks and guards remained after the crowd left. In Washington fifty American and Polish communists carried banners denouncing the Polish bourgeoisie and staged a two hour red demonstration before the Polish legation.
The body of George H. Cantrell 27 a captain in the Texas national guard was found in a partially submerged automobile in Lake Austin near here. The car was at the foot of an eighty foot cliff and Cantrell was last seen Thursday night after attending drill.
St Paul report of Harry Davis cashier at the Kresge store murdered by a bandit who failed to secure any loot. The bandit escaped.
