Committee Fails Red Walkout Over Iran Deadlock

A three nation security council subcommittee failed to break the American Russian deadlock on Iran. Secretary Byrnes, Ambassador Gromyko, and Ambassador Bonnet met 90 minutes in a Pierre Hotel suite but could not reach a formula to keep the Iranian issue on track. The United States will press again for an immediate hearing on Iran.

Atlantic City March 27 Um Walter Reuther and R J Thomas ran neck and neck for the presidency of the CIO United Auto Workers with 25 percent of votes counted Reuther led 1007 to 991 in unofficial early returns as large local unions yet to vote were awaited Delegates total about 1 877 with 8830 votes to be cast and Reuther enjoyed a larger ovation during nomination and parade

Spring Rains Boost Amarillo Preseason Weather Preview

Rains swept the Panhandle with showers across Amarillo and nearby towns then cleared for warmer afternoon sun. Dallas to Corpus Christi highs reached 87 while El Paso and Wink reported 36. Pampa measured .22 inches. Clarendon .84. Adrian .09. Dalhart saw light rainfall. The storm stems from a broad low pressure area aloft.

Youth Slays Father in Justified Homicide Case

In Houston on March 27 a 15 year old boy, James J. Ainsworth, said he killed his father Earnest M. Ainsworth after years of alleged drink fueled abuse toward his pregnant mother. The teen claimed the father beat the mother with a shingle and threatened the family, prompting the son to shoot him once in the chest. An inquest returned a verdict of justifiable homicide.

Wyatt Seeks 850000 Prefab Houses for Veterans

Housing Expeditor Wilson W Wyatt outlined plans to build 850000 prefabricated homes for veterans at about 4000 each this year and next as part of a drive to 2700000 low cost homes by 1947. He asked for a government market guarantee of 75 percent this year and 50 percent next, while senators questioned subsidies and potential inefficiency.

Vardaman Nominated for 14-Year Fed Board Term

Washington March 27 A Senate banking subcommittee recommended confirmation of Commodore James K. Vardaman Jr for a 14 year term on the Federal Reserve Board. The subcommittee voted without dissent and charged allegations were found unsubstantial. The full banking committee will take up the nomination at an executive session at the earliest moment.

Troops Begin Arriving Here At Amarillo Field

The first peacetime troops reached Amarillo Army Air Field with a 20 coach train of basic trainees at 7:30 this morning. A second troop train arriving Monday added to 12 expected trains this week. Overall about 7 500 men are anticipated for the seven day period.
