Oil commission fight opens with floor clash in Texas
In Austin on March 24 the Texas House opened debate on a bill to replace the elected railroad commission with an appointive body to regulate oil and gas. Rep. McMurry labeled the issue the session’s most important, while opponents framed it as a clash between the oil industry and the public. Governor ODaniel urged immediate action on a labor dispute bill to curb force and violence, proposing constitutional substitutes after Attorney General Mann found parts of the original plan unconstitutional.
