Pantex Village Mushroom Growth Tells Post Office Tale
Pantex Texas grew from a fourth class post office to a bustling hub as Amarillo Housing Authority created a town for Pantex Ordnance Plant workers. Since unofficial beginnings in 1944 and official post office status in 1945, the village expanded staff and mail volume with Mrs E A Lemmons as postmaster and plans for higher classifications. The post office now serves 360 boxes with 20 cent three month rates and notes Christmas rushes rivaling larger facilities.
