Flames Destroy Ackerly Stores

District Court Adjourns to Monday for E. R. Murr Trial

District Judge Henry S. Bishop adjourned criminal district court until Monday morning to begin the eighth week of the January term. The regular jury was excused for the week. The E. R. Murr trial took three days this week. Monday’s case has not been called.

Snow was moving toward Houston after the city’s second freeze in as many nights. Government meteorologist Lawrence Daingerfield said reports from Southwest Texas stations indicated a developing storm. Laredo reported seven inches of snow, Beeville and Del Rio two inches, and Corpus Christi a heavy snowfall with 34 degrees.

West Texas Snow Dampens Crops and Forecast Improves

A winter storm blanketed West Texas with snowfall in Wink, Midland, and Guadalupe and left Gonzales with a first March snow memory. The Dallas News Agricultural department estimates fruit and vegetable losses in the millions, hitting peaches in Cherokee, Anderson, Smith, Franklin, and Henderson counties and plums, with up to 90 percent destruction in some areas. Panhandle farmers hear loan plan in Amarillo

More than 100 farmers, county agents, bankers and chamber of commerce officials from Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona heard Owen W. Fishermen and Horses Stranded On Ice Near Helsinki

In a northern gale in the Gulf of Finland about 700 fishermen and 100 horses were stranded on floating ice floes near Suursaari Island between Helsinki and Leningrad.
