Roscoe Qualls, nine, of Madisonville Kentucky, lay bedridden after a skating accident on his father’s farm. Doctors diagnosed concussion and paralysis, he briefly seemed to die while his parents drafted funeral arrangements, but he later regained some ability to sit up.
Mrs. Laura M. Pierce, wife of Oregon Governor Walter M. Pierce, died at the family home in Salem after a long illness. Funeral arrangements were not immediately announced. Governor Pierce and family were known for their public service in Oregon.
