At Kelly Field San Antonio on March 6 two DH-4B planes collided at about 4000 feet. Lieut C D McAllister and Cadet Charles A Lindberg leaped in parachutes and landed unharmed. A nine ship formation under Lieut T W Blackburn practiced attack work.
The Northwestern Cotton company will reopen its gin on March 16 to process all remaining cotton. EB Ham, buyer for the company, said the gin is currently closed but will operate that day to gin leftovers from farmers. Buyers will be present to purchase the remaining cotton.
Amarillo merchants and manufacturers association approves second semi annual Panhad e Plains Business conference to be held April 14 and 15 at the Amarillo hotel. A committee will plan fare refunds for merchants using purchase coupons and an entertainment panel will be named. Several hundred merchants attended last fall with a larger turnout expected.
Department of justice agents reported Walter R. Bailey charged with transporting a stolen motor vehicle and who fled custody in Amarillo has been arrested in Los Angeles. Bailey and four others were arrested January 19 1958 and escaped in March 1958. He posted a $2 000 bond in Los Angeles for his Amarillo appearance in June.
Washington March 6 Republicans reorganize the new senate after party council readouts Senator Moses of New Hampshire is chosen president pro tempore 36 to 50 defeating Democrat Pittman of Nevada who was the Democratic conference choice.
Col James E Fechet was named by the War Department to succeed Brig Gen William Mitchell as head of the Army Air Service The selection followed ongoing controversy over air power and public statements that kept officials on edge in Washington
President Coolidge nominated Alfred P. Dennis a Democrat from Maryland to succeed David J. Lewis on the tariff commission. The entry also notes a hotel advertisement about the Amarillo Coffee Shop and its claim of fame for food.
Bloomfield Missouri March 6 a remarkable love tangle surfaced as two young farmers traded wives leading to arrests of Mr and Mrs Curt Wallace and Mr and Mrs Otis Cravens. They are jailed in Stoddard County on statutory charges. Wallace 27 and wife 24 married seven years have three children Cravens 30 and wife Nelle 22 eight years with two children Cravens says he fell in love with Gora and Curt with Nellie.
The Panhandle-Plains lumbermen association schedules its annual convention in Amarillo on May 15 and 16. An executive committee set the dates and outlined plans for entertainment for about 200 attendees. Committee members include President John Hill, Ben Tepe of Canadian, U N Olver, and WW Galbraith. The Amarilla Hoo Hoo club will host a large gathering Saturday night May 16.
A charter for a 200 mile railroad from Ketelline on the Fort Worth and Denver line toward Castro county was obtained in Austin. The Fort Worth and Denver South Plains railway, with J H W Harwise Jr of Port Worth and John A Hulen of Houston securing it, is linked to a Chicago Burlington and Quincy interest.
Johnstown, Pa. Stephen Balogh Jr. 19 and his sister Helen 17 who wed last Monday in Cumberland Md. face prosecution to the limit while the sister may gain release. The girl, awaiting a baby, remains in detention. the brother in county jail. Helen reportedly wishes to continue living with him. The boy was born in Thingars during his mother's visit and had not seen his sister until 1920.
In Austin on March 6 the amnesty fight erupts on the house floor after three days of preliminary skirmishing. LA Lee Bobbitt of Laredo introduces a privileged resolution urging passage of general legislation first, attacking special laws and personal benefits.
A coroner jury in Denver returns a verdict that two year old Flazer Blazer died from poison administered by her father Dr H E Blazer, an Englewood physician known as famous for food at Amarillo hotel The Panhandle's Meeting Place.
The city plans a $1,750,000 water bond with the aim of the largest possible turnout in the upcoming election. A mass meeting was canceled as unnecessary, with polling stations set at eight locations and votes to be tabulated after polls open at 8 am and close at 7 pm.

General John J. Pershing fell ill in Havana after arriving from Santiago de Cuba with a mission as guests of the Cuban government. He remained in bed and was not expected to rise until tomorrow when he planned a visit to President Zayas.
American film star Gloria Swanson who had an acute peritonitis operation on February 18 is reported to have recovered sufficiently to leave the clinic at Auteuil this afternoon.
Houston report: W. C. Parker, an ice company employee, was shot and killed at noon. N. A. Crawford, the plant superintendent, was arrested and charged with murder.
