Loser in 50 can claim tax rebate under law
Amarillo accountant explains a loss year can be carried back to 1948 and forward to 1952 to reduce tax. A $40,000 loss in 1950 could erase $20,000 of tax in 1948 and 1949, then offset 1951 and 1952 income, potentially gaining more than $10,000 over five years.

Fifth Annual Market Show Displays Strong Merchandising
A large shopping center at Tenth and Georgia expands its front to gain 40 more feet as Morris McCartt reports. The Fifth Annual Market Show closed at the Herring and Amarillo hotels with robust sales and a second-day turnout. Exhibitors praised sales, while staff roles included hashers and bus boys during a market buffet. W. H. Gattis of Gattis Clendenin Shoe Store acted as head waiter, explaining to Page Stalcup that his role fit the major demo. Stalcup accepted and earned a 50 cent tip, with a 25 cent net from Walter Stalcup’s work. Bus boys included Paul Smith, Bert Levy, and Bill Lansing. Wait staff featured Carter Mathews, Ben Solnick, L. Pirtle, and Mrs. Edith Zelley.
