Sen Joseph T Robinson of Arkansas was chosen as the Democratic vice presidential running mate for Gov Alfred E Smith at the Democratic National Convention in Houston. Smith was selected as the party's presidential candidate amid widespread acclaim and some controversy. Governor Smith sent an acceptance telegram urging fundamental changes to national prohibition provisions.

At a Panhandle gathering in Amarillo officials of the Tri State Fair association and Panhandle Plains of Texas Inc. outlined plans to register settlers from across the state. They will compile three prospects per registrant and send delegation photos and stories to all states to attract newcomers to the Panhandle region.

Texas railroads offer fare and a half round trip for all delegates attending the Postal Clerks and Letter Carriers state convention to be held July 4 and 5. D. W. Baker reports on the fares. Delegates visited Harding ranch to stake picnic grounds for a buffalo barbecue. A new creek crossing road will guide attendees to the barbecue. Welcome speeches precede a city sight seeing trip and a 4 PM ranch visit. July 5 will host business meetings of the two unions.
Ora Raifsynder, 45, of Roxana, died at a local hospital after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife and a six year old son Oscar. The body is held at Blackburn Boxwell funeral home awaiting word from relatives in Pennsylvania.

New Mexico residents met at Askew and Short to plan a reunion at Harding ranch on July 4. M. A. Barker of Polk Street asks former Adobe State residents to call 9106 with attendance plans. Reports say Tucumcari and Clovis delegations will attend the picnic.
Rock Island railroad announced special Saturday only fares from Amarillo to Chicago. The St Louis route offers a $38.53 round trip with a 15 day return limit, while the Memphis route lists $42.02.
The Amarillo Broncs announce the first in a series of moves. Bill Swansboro is sent to the Wichita Aviators for Eucal Clanton as part of strategic changes for the second half. Swansboro departs after today’s game with Des Moines. Clanton will start at first base Saturday.

In Superior Wisconsin on June 29 President Coolidge learned of Governor Alfred Smith’s Democratic nomination for president. He rose to hear the news but kept the Cedar Island Lodge radio off, following his convention precedent while fishing on the Brule River. Mrs. Coolidge listened at the loud speaker as needed.
Athens reports the Greek cabinet resigned after G. Kafandaris the finance minister stepped down amid Liberal party withdrawal of support led by former Premier Venizelos. The move followed Kafandaris resignation triggering a government downfall and reshuffle.
Geneva reports Governor Smith’s Houston victory fuels expectations of closer U S cooperation with the League of Nations. Hoover remains better known for war work, but Smith’s Albany record draws attention and a Paris blunt take notes France will claim war debts regardless.
The freighter Grecian of Merchants and Miners Transportation was beached near Memory Light southwest of Chattham after colliding with the Evangeline of Eastern Steamship. Heavy fog caused a signaling mistake creating a large hole in the Grecian’s side.
