Uijongbu recaptured as S Korean forces counterattack

Russell Brines reports from Tokyo that Southern Korean troops retook Uijongbu near Seoul in a furious counterattack pushing North Korean forces back about 20 miles. Seoul was reportedly quiet as cabinet members and President Rhee evacuated the city amid shifting command and air battles.

Vote To Extend Draft One Year

Unable To Sweat Baby Dies In Fever

A six month old boy born without sweat glands died after enduring fevers of 106 to 108 degrees. Doctors at San Bernardino County Hospital said this was only the 25th known case of such a condition, which traps wastes in the body and causes high fevers. The infant was the son of Mr and Mrs Richard Brown of Upland.

Diplomats Meet in Lake Success Over Korea Crisis

Soviet Deputy Foreign Minister Malik and U S Ambassador Gross met at an undisclosed Lake Success residence before a United Nations Security Council session. Most council members attended except Britain China Yugoslavia and India. Yugoslav Deputy Minister Bebler read a proposal for immediate mediation inviting North Korea to participate with full authority. The U S mission denied details but said it would submit a resolution of importance. The UN Korea commission has moved south from Seoul reporting blame on North Korea.

HUGE AIRLIFT SPEEDS YANKS FROM KOREA

Press Correspondent H P King reports from Itazuki Airbase Kyushu June 27 as US air forces evacuate Americans from Korea at record speed. About 563 people to be flown by nightfall, including 200 US military personnel and 100 other persons. Some 350 advisers head south toward Seoul to maintain contact with the South Korean Army.

Amarillo man recalls Korea war era heat and tension

Robert L. Bell of 1410 West Nineteenth, once public safety officer with the 54th Military Headquarters Company, recalls how the Korean War era felt like sitting on a keg of dynamite as Russia moved to invade. Bell served with the U S occupation forces in Korea from 1945 and watched the frontline demarcation near the Russian sector.
