Big Push on Grasshoppers To Be Finished This Week
Entomologist Arthur Miller says the big push against grasshoppers in Hartley Dalham Sherman and Moore counties will wrap up this week with highway department and National Guard support. About 500000 pounds of bait are deployed daily as clean-up crews spread more poison. No livestock losses have been reported when poison is used as directed. Farmers may need ongoing small scale poisoning through summer to curb hoppers. Potter County agent Ted Alexander urges adding molasses to attract hoppers and boost kills. Poison remains available at the Tri-State Fairgrounds plant.
