Fire Rips Through New Mexico Forest

TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES NM June 26 More than 30000 acres of timber lay in ashes as a forest fire in the Gila National Forest raged uncontrolled for the fifth day. At least 1200 men were on the fire lines trying to tighten the 60 to 70 mile front. Most lines must be dug by hand in the nearly impassable Black Mountain region 45 miles southeast of Truth or Consequences.
