AFL President Green warns of continued political action to defend members who backed Taft-Hartley. He links unity to CIO AFL merger talks and notes upcoming conferences and legal challenges as lawmakers react to the new labor law.
The Texas attorney general rules that Potter County road and bridge funds may be used to pave or maintain Amarillo streets with city consent. The ruling allows using surplus funds to create connecting links on county roads through the city, though this year no funds will be allocated to city streets due to machinery needs and near exhaustion of the fund. Commissioner John Halley supports directing about 50 000 a year to city streets from surplus, while County Attorney Roy Snodgrass sought the opinion to benefit the greatest number of taxpayers.
Leroy Murphy 21 was arraigned in Justice court on a murder charge after his father L G Murphy 51 died from a blow to the temple. Bail on the assault with intent to murder charge was set at 2000. the elder Murphy had previously sought a peace bond. The hearing followed a Tuesday assault in which the elder Murphy was beaten.

Austin June 26 The attorney general's office issued a one thousand word opinion stating that minnows produced at a minnow farm are all fish not farm products or livestock. The ruling followed a Brown County case where a minnow farm operator claimed farm product status to use a farm vehicle loan.
Pendleton residents heard from Kenneth Arnold a Boise sales rep who claimed nine extremely shiny nick plated craft flew near Mount Rainier and Mount Adams at about 1200 miles per hour. He described a saucer like formation seen while searching for a missing Marine plane with no military confirmation.
A burglary at Hobby Shop in Amarillo involved staged train thefts and model railroad gear valued around 400 dollars. Burglars entered before midnight, damaged the back room and window, and several Lionel trains and engines were stolen or recovered later. A reward was posted and later reduced as items were recovered. The incident prompted an investigation into the theft of model railroad equipment.
Fireman Paul Maley of the city department was injured by an explosion while lighting a fire at the Love Brown residence at 409 North Lincoln this afternoon around 1 50. He was taken to St Anthony's Hospital in a private vehicle. Observers said the blast occurred during the fire and caused burns that scorched him all over. his injuries were not believed serious.
A Rock Island deluxe passenger train derailed 18 miles east of Amarillo around 1 PM. One dining car cook was reported injured. Three rear cars left the tracks about 11 miles west of Conway, with derailment occurring near Yarnall. An ambulance and local officials responded. aircraft reporter noted cars off on the south side.
Panhandle farmers hear a harvest forecast from Weatherman Winburn predicting rising temperatures and a fair southwest wind. A few scattered showers may occur late afternoon, with potential harvest delays tonight. Amarillo readings expected near 97 degrees today as warmer weather continues.
Scaffold climbs the Potter County Courthouse as a 140 foot high stage rises for Waddy Week. A large levee along Des Moines River breached flooding a 25 block residential area. Waters surged through within an hour as a twin crest from two rivers converged near downtown. Weather Bureau predicted crest around twenty nine, with several nearby towns already flooded this month.
New York police report John Foley a 48 year old man was robbed in the early hours. His clothes caught fire after an assailant ignited them with a match and Foley ran a half mile to a hospital tearing off burning garments. He arrived in a serious condition wearing only socks and shorts.
