Strikers reject third back-to-work pleas in San Francisco
United Press reports 800 AFL machinists at 11 shipyards in San Francisco spurn back-to-work appeals for the third time. The strike, part of a wider Gulf Coast pact, concerns a $115 hourly demand versus a $1.12 base rate and overtime. Bethlehem Bethlehem and the NDMB stance feature in ongoing mediation, with other unions moving toward settlements while leaders urge restraint.
