Burglars robbed three local shops last night ripping more than 500 dollars in cash and 200 dollars in goods. By noon today the merchandise was recovered, a man jailed, and officers hunted a prime suspect in the cash theft. Reported only fragments of store names.
In Austin on June 15 AP McDonald wins permission to file a mandamus against the State Democratic Executive Committee after it barred his name from the July 22 Democratic primary ballot. The court set a June 20 hearing and the case aims to compel placement of his name while he seeks an 11th term.
Burglars smashed a rear window and cut a hail screen to enter a church. Police recovered much of the merchandise from the Negro section and arrested Jesse Lee Davis, a 33 year old transient Negro, who was charged with burglary in district court after being found with the goods. Mrs. FDR toured Denmark arriving in Copenhagen this morning.
Washington June 15 The presidential emergency board recommends a five day 40 hour week for 75,000 conductors and trainmen and 4,000 yardmasters, with an 18 cent per hour raise for yard workers to offset a sixth day pay loss. It favors other unions and sets Oct 1 as effective date, with 30 day cooling period if rejected.
Population figures from the final census show Deaf Smith and Castro counties gaining while six Panhandle counties list declines and two show increases. Deaf Smith rises about 50 percent to 9 073 with Castro at 5 402. Hereford and Dimmitt are the towns with notable increases amid widespread declines in other towns.
Miss Hodges, 23, daughter of Mrs. Ora Hodges, was chosen deputy treasurer by a 23 to 2 vote in an executive session. She will earn 225 dollars a month, with the position opening as the county treasurer’s term remains under review. Other candidates include Mike Thomas and W E Lee. filing deadline is Saturday night.
Potter County Democrats report a looming filing deadline with most officeholders unopposed for renomination. Key offices without announced opponents include Sheriff Gaither, Clerk Jones, JPs Carder and Wilkinson, Judge Jordan, District Clerk Smith, School Supt. Wilson, County Atty. Peterson, and Tax Assessor-Collector Cole. Contested seats center on Commissioners Court and Precinct No. 1 constable. A possible race may form for county treasurer. interim appointee Hodges succeeds Heyser.
Oklahoma badman Homer Cook remains missing after a 36 hour hunt with bloodhounds in Bavaria. Swiss Austrian and French police joined German authorities in a nationwide alert as Cook, 27, vanished after a jail break for the third time in two months. German police guarded Anna Sperer, 21, who awaits his return claiming love, amid searches through the night and across trains into Switzerland. Police believed he may have fled the country.
Wayne Burris a seven year old boy drowned yesterday in a city operated swimming pool in Austin. The tragedy occurred while supervision was in place and officials began an investigation into the incident.
