Argentina protests Axis torpedoing of tanker Victoria
Argentina formally protested to Germany and Italy over the torpedoing of the tanker Victoria. Foreign Minister Enrique Ruiz Guinaza said the act violated neutral status and international law, noting circumstantial Axis submarine evidence and the ship’s linseed cargo bound for the United States. The protest is the strongest Argentina has made to the Axis, with Chile the only other American nation maintaining Axis relations. Six times as many motor trucks were registered in Burma last year as in 1940.
