Woman Awarded In Fatal Car Crash Verdict
A federal court jury awarded Mrs. Winnie Lewis a total of 23 085 dollars against Midunion Drilling Company of Oklahoma for the traffic accident that killed her husband George Lewis east of Dumas last August. The verdict included 22 000 for compensation 550 for funeral expenses and 485 for damage to the Lewis car. Mrs. Lewis was injured in the crash. George Lewis was employed in the Dumas area.

HONOLULU June 10 More than a hundred American pilots volunteered to fly for China after the army signaled it would allow fliers to resign from the air corps. Chinese consul general King Chau Mui said most volunteers came from Hawaiian air fields with a few civilians. He quoted them saying they join China to defend democracy as it fights for freedom.

She was en route to Amarillo to visit her son J. L. Holcomb and is survived by two other sons and a daughter. The body will go to Lamar, Colorado for burial.
