A freak twister event in Clarendon damaged the Riney home and garage across from Clarendon College. A rear car window in H. M. Breedlove’s garage shows numerous geometric patterns from an apparent electrical discharge, while the Riney garage was demolished yet the car escaped damage beyond the glass. Mrs Riney and the baby were away at the time.
Admiral Jean Francois Darlan announced by radio that the Vichy government hopes to sign a separate peace with Germany without waiting for the end of the war.
A federal court jury awarded Mrs. Winnie Lewis a total of 23 085 dollars against Midunion Drilling Company of Oklahoma for the traffic accident that killed her husband George Lewis east of Dumas last August. The verdict included 22 000 for compensation 550 for funeral expenses and 485 for damage to the Lewis car. Mrs. Lewis was injured in the crash. George Lewis was employed in the Dumas area.

HONOLULU June 10 More than a hundred American pilots volunteered to fly for China after the army signaled it would allow fliers to resign from the air corps. Chinese consul general King Chau Mui said most volunteers came from Hawaiian air fields with a few civilians. He quoted them saying they join China to defend democracy as it fights for freedom.
On her birthday, film icon Bette Davis who has a summer home near Littleton New Hampshire was appointed a deputy sheriff. The announcement noted the honorary role during her visit.
Washington June 10 The House ways and means committee voted to retain the present individual income tax exemptions of 800 for single persons and 2000 for married couples. About 16,000,000 will file returns this year. The committee also retained the 400 credit for dependents in addition to the spouse. Rates to be set later.
Board No 1 orders John Henry Milly William Anderson Johnson and Robbie Wesley Greene to Fort Bliss by 6:30 AM aboard a bus. Dock Stromile is sent to the district attorney as a delinquent after requesting a transfer to San Bernardino but failing to appear. Board No 2 will send John Dix Brown to Fort Bliss. The text notes that three fourths of the elk population of the United States is around Yellowstone National Park.
Pa praises Sir Thomas Lipton for expanding prize winning teas and lowering costs so all could enjoy tea. The Lipton blend now sells at about half a cent per glass.
Sheriff Denton J. Quick seized Camp Nordland in Andover New Jersey after consulting the state attorney general. The Bund property sold to 217 lot owners will be patrolled and closed to the public as a nuisance. A caretaker may be allowed on request by Nordland Home Owners Association.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ann Holcomb who died in a Sunday automobile crash near Dumas will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. from Boxwell Brothers Chapel with Rev. J. C. Sizemore officiating. She was en route to Amarillo to visit her son J. L. Holcomb and is survived by two other sons and a daughter. The body will go to Lamar, Colorado for burial.

Senator Captain J. Franklin Spears of San Antonio arrived in Austin for the legislative session after being held as a spy during Brownwood army maneuvers. His troop, part of the Blue army, was stopped by a Red army patrol forty miles from Brownwood amid questions about a possible Blue formation. Captors claimed a spy would tell anything until headquarters assured safe passage through Red lines.
