Senate hearings heard J H W Dunn production engineer for Lone Star Gas Company warn that one gas stripping plant could release more gas into the air in a year than Wheeler County and East Panhandle fields produced in 1933. He cited the Smith Brothers plant in Western Wheeler: up to 36 billion cubic feet yearly from ten wells versus 28 billion from 221 wells last year. Dunn said stripping plants drain fields by spot connections and would deplete Wheeler County in five to six years if larger plants were built, with only six percent of map reserves used for light and fuel. He noted Lone Star serves 250 Texas towns and that current plant operations waste enough gas daily to supply over 10 000 average domestic consumers yearly. Chase, Lone Star vice president, remains in hospital after a fall from the Municipal Auditorium.
