La Salle Hotel fire in Chicago claims 58 dead
Investigations began into the La Salle Hotel disaster as officials seek answers. Identifications reached 54 of 58 victims with four still unnamed including a torso. Among the dead was Louis Marco of Chicago. a Texan, Duane Beaty of Antonio, was identified and Michael Tyler, 12, from Niles Michigan, linked to Waxahachie, Texas. John B. Kerr, an Amarillo resident since 1889 and longtime county official, died this morning in a San Antonio hospital at age 86. He served as county commissioner 1908 to 1910 and was a longtime member of Po k Street Methodist Church. He is survived by his son Herman Kerr of Amarillo and other relatives. The body will be brought to Amarillo by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Home. funeral arrangements pending.
