Wheat shipments for storage must avoid rail congestion with documentary proof of unloading, as permits are issued for two cars from Chillicothe to Producers Grain in Fort Worth.
Twenty one Texas cities earned milk ratings of 90 percent or better. Dr. George W. Cox, state health officer, announced the honor roll which includes Amarillo Big Spring Brownwood Canyon Lubbock Lufkin Palestine San Angelo Sherman Texarkana Tyler and Del Rio.
In Philadelphia an heir of Green's Hotel owner Mahlon W Newton bought the portrait of Tix for 7 dollars. The 40 year old painting by Ben Austin was found by Insurance Broker Walter Linn in an auction house. The famous cat once prowled the hotel lobby and dining room and was buried with ceremony in Woodbury New Jersey after a long life and a lavish funeral.
A Texas sheep herder asked Attorney General Grover A. Giles if he may use fireworks to deter coyotes. Giles found no legal exemption for sheepherders and warned the fireworks would likely frighten sheep as well as the coyotes.
Birmingham businessman John Wood switched from wire clotheslines to stove pokers after defense officials indicated no demand for clotheslines. He secured 20 000 pokers under a tent contract, then 294 000 more from the quartermaster corps, and plans to produce about 3 000 pokers daily.
Two Americans and one Japanese were sentenced for violating the foreign agents registration law. Frederick Williams and David Ryder of San Francisco received 16 months to four years, while Tsutomu Obana, secretary of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of San Francisco, drew two to six months.
The John B Golding Post Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold its regular meeting tonight at 8 30 at the Odd Fellows Hall. Post commander Charles Hoppin announced the event.
Earl Simpson, who leaves soon for induction, was guest of honor at a send off party given by the Co-Ed Club of the Amarillo Y M C A. He is a past president of the group. The Amarillo Safety Council directorate meets at 8 tonight at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company office to elect officers and plan work.
A U.S. Army heavy bomber crashed three miles northwest of Hamilton Field in California. All 14 crew members were killed when the plane burst into flames during an attempted landing at 10:45 p.m. The crash occurred on a hillside near Ignacio and burning wreckage was visible for miles. Names of victims await next of kin notification.
Lieut. Gen. Brehon Somervell, U S Army supply chief, declared that the United States can fully equip any troops sent abroad. He praised the Northern Ireland operations as creditable and said the command shows vim and dash ready to do the job after inspecting U S establishments there.
C. W. Furr, seriously ill for weeks at Northwest Texas Hospital, is listed as just fair today after a fair night. Attendants report his condition shows no immediate improvement.
In Hagertown Maryland a deputy responding to a mad dog report fired a tear gas shell by mistake. The dog and a nearby woman and her daughter cried as the deputy cried too. After realizing the error, the deputy used a real bullet to end the dog’s life.
Senate conferees on the military pay bill proposed a compromise setting $46 a month as the minimum base pay for privates and apprentice seamen. House conferees took the proposal under advisement.
A Friona restaurant worker, Duke Baker, found 18 rubber bands inside a chicken during a Wednesday cleaning. The bands were in good condition, prompting questions about the rubber shortage and its possible connection to poultry.
Mrs Clyde Holtzclaw, injured in a car bus crash near Claude, was reported in fair condition after a night of severe burns. Attendants at Northwest Texas Hospital said her status remains fair today.

Merchant losses near 250 ships, axis subs sunk by U S forces at least 23, Japanese sea losses at least 261 U S plane losses figures unavailable. Government war funding totals and contracts through Dec 7 and June 1940 with large expenditures and commitments.
Last night's light showers brought a municipal water department tie in with lawn watering. Weather observer H C Winburn resisted watering his yard, predicting showers that arrived. English Field measured .01 inch, town seeing more. cooler temperatures expected this afternoon after a 85 degree high and 60 degree low.
At a small county school graduation in Madisonville the superintendent, presiding at his first program, forgot to call the graduates and stood flustered as the students waited off stage. The speaker delivered a long address while the pupils remained backstage. The superintendent has since applied for an Army assignment in Australia.
