Service Men In the News From Our Defenders
Pvt Royas Kiser, formerly of Furr Food Stores, landed in England with the U S Army after completing basic training at Camp Farmin in February. He is the son of B Kiser Kellerville. At entry he worked at Pantex. Arthur L Anderson of 2047 Hayden St has been promoted to first lieutenant at Frederick Army Air Field Oklo and serves as cadet tactical officer at the twin engine advanced training school of the Central Training Command.

Amarillo Life Underwriters Association announces it will organize school children to door to door solicit bonds and stamps during the Fifth War Loan. School districts are assigned to committees led by G. W. Mills with Archie Castleberry and Zeb Moore assisting. prizes will be awarded to district winners. A horseshoe shaped rock near Durham, N C, is noted as used by Indian tribes in praying for aid from war gods.

McCandless Commissioned Second Lieutenant at Selman Field
Jim A. McCandless son of Mrs Kate McCandless 1621 Lincoln Street was commissioned second lieutenant and awarded navigator wings at graduation exercises May 20 at Selman Field Monroe Louisiana He entered the Army Air Corps January 1943 after attending Amarillo College and West Texas State College He is a Ralls High School graduate now in Lincoln Nebraska awaiting station assignment He visited relatives here last week.
