Private crop experts forecast US wheat harvest this year at 700 million bushels with notable shrinkage in the winter wheat belt. May end conditions put production about 231 million bushels below last year, while forecasts for spring wheat and oats are also reduced from last year’s totals.

A burglar took several cases of clocks from a box car on the siding at Waples-Platter Grocery Company located at 100 Taylor Street. The clocks were described as colorful in red green and blue folklore hues. The theft was reported by railroad special agent Ollie Chessir.

In Mercer Pennsylvania a 16 year old bride returned home under court order to care for her invalid father while vowing to wed Lee Hoffman again after she turns 21. Detective Barnes charged her with perjury for stating she was 21 on a marriage license in January.
In Amarillo last night the Amarillo Motorcycle Club rode a tractor pulled cycle to a stop in front of the Double Dip Ice Cream Shop at Thirteenth Avenue and Polk Street. Twenty one people disembarked and entered the sandwich shop while attendants looked on in disbelief.

The first carload of new 1939 wheat arrived in Amarillo this morning from Seymour Texas, announced by officials of the Producers' Grain Corporation. Wheat price today in Amarillo is 66 cents per bushel, eight cents higher than last year’s first shipment.
