Speed survey on camp sites in Palo Duro

Two state parks in Palo Duro Canyon near Amarillo receive federal approval for construction of five forestry camps. Each camp will employ 200 men with $90 000 allotted for materials. Army engineers will select sites and work begins immediately. Parks will be deeded to the state after completion for public use.

Convict Escape Suspect Captured Near Dripping Springs

Surprise capture of Louis Betchel, one of three Kansas penitentiary escapees, occurred at noon at a farm house eight miles northwest of the area. Betchel admitted identity after officers compared features with photos as other posses closed in on the remaining two convicts.

Nine Convicts Taken to Federal Prisons from Amarillo

Nine federal prisoners departed Amarillo Friday afternoon to begin sentences meted by Judge James C. Wilson. They are under guard by U S Deputy Marshals with Mar shal Gamble escorting to Ohio. Morgan Eyes Photographers as Probe Hears Stock Moves

Seven Arrests Reported in McElroy Kidnaping Case

Police announced seven persons connected to the weekend kidnaping of Miss Mary McElroy, daughter of City Manager H. F. McElroy, have been arrested. Three men and two women were nabbed in Amarillo Texas, two more taken in Kansas City. Walter McGee, held in Amarillo, is named as the gang leader. Some of the $30 000 paid for the release was recovered.

Kansas City Kidnapping Involving City Manager’s Daughter

Mary McElroy daughter of City Manager H L McElroy was abducted from a Kansas City home last Saturday. Two men, about 35, confined her for 30 hours in a basement while demanding ransoms, with an initial plea of 60 000 and a later payment of 30 000, which led to her release at a local golf club.
