Amarillo anticipates a major oil boom as three large companies push to seal deals worth over fifty thousand dollars each for acreage. Analysts predict about 1.25 million in cash flowing into Amarillo before fall, with original investors getting 140 dollars back per dollar invested, signaling a lively economic uptick for the city.
Summer school opened in the high school building this morning with forty six students registering across fifteen classes. Principal C. M. Rogers announced the program is on a tuition basis and three teachers will oversee courses including English History Algebra Geometry and Commercial arithmetic. Enrollment must be completed by tomorrow night.
Houston June 2 Two 665 600 barrel tanks of Humble Oil and Refining at Goose Creek and one 55 000 barrel tank at Webster are on fire after a lightning strike early today. Officials say no danger of spread and none of the tanks were full.
H M Black alias G C Rogers of Wichita Falls was indicted by the grand jury on forgery charges. He tried to pass a 15 85 dollar check with Al bert Randall's signature to George E Harris at 200 Buchanan street. He admitted forging the check and cited dire circumstances. He is jailed in the county jail.
In yesterday's display ad the linen item read 19 cents but should have shown 79 cents. The store apologizes and announces the corrected price after numerous inquiries.
New York June 2 Madison Square Garden will be dry during the Democratic National Convention, committee members announced. David Latinberg who runs the restaurant concession must post a substantial bond to cover possible Volstead act violations by him or his employer. The contract also sets moderate food prices.
Washington reports the House adopted an adjournment resolution setting 7 o clock next Saturday night. Senate concurrence is required. A recess option of a month or six weeks is under discussion as a substitute. The vote was 221 to 157 with opposition from insurgent and some western Republicans.

Several hundred cars used the Amarillo Tri State exposition invitation to test the new fair grounds race track. Work on watering, rolling, and dragging the track for races on June 14 began this morning. The grandstand seats 3,700 and should be ready by June 14 for its first racing event. The track is expected to be in good shape by then and attract drivers to show speed. The fair stadium and track are hoped to yield dividends and draw attention during the exposition year.
Judge James Wilson of Dallas opens federal court this afternoon at 2 o'clock. The first step is assembling the grand jury with a regular panel of thirty, from which at least sixteen will be chosen for service.
Vienna June 2 The Austrian chancellor Dr Ignaz Seipel lies in grave condition after a gunman Karl Jaworek fired three shots as Seipel returned from Wiener Neustadt. Jaworek wounded himself attempting suicide and allegedly acted under orders amid a Communist plot.
Ten persons are dead and twenty injured after a collision between eastbound Wabash passenger train No 2 and a freight on a siding near Attica Indiana. Victims include Mrs W H Pauley of Decatur Illinois Mrs Abbie Holloway of Toledo Ohio E Phillips of Detroit Rabbi T Goldberg of New York Walter L Mitchell of St Louis George W Bouchard of Peru Indiana and several others with one unidentified man among the dead. The passenger train reportedly struck a split rail and crashed into the siding freight.
Chicago June 2 State's Attorney Crowe announced plans to seek two indictments against Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb for kidnapping for ransom and murder. The case involves 14 year old Robert Franks's slaying. Court ordered immediate jail custody without bond.
