Amarillo Soldier Killed by Unknown Attack Near Manila
Technical Sgt. Donald R. McCullough of Amarillo identified as the victim in a third attack on U S Army personnel in central Luzon. He died from machine gun fire as a civilian truck blocked the jeep between Manila outskirts and the road. Sgt. Edward L. Sevenish of Indianapolis wounded in critical condition at the 16th General Hospital. McCullough, 21, son of Mr and Mrs Ralph McCullough, served since 1944 with combat duty in Europe including the Battle of the Bulge. He had reenlisted for three years and was studying at Schreiner Institute and the University of Manila evenings. He was born in Lawton Oklahoma and later lived in Hereford before moving to Amarillo. He is survived by parents, sister Norma, 17, brother Pat, 11, and many relatives.

Truck Plunge Into Canyon Kills Two Children
A Ford pickup plunged 90 feet into Cota Glen Canyon killing 15 year old Wanda Rasberry and 2 year old Flora Watley. Six others were injured including Fina Shaw 12 and Glenna Jones with Mary Harvey. Rev Joe Scruggs and Mrs Scruggs were injured but not hospitalized.

Dutch Take Malang in East Java during Java Campaign

President Truman issued a proclamation reducing Texas duck hunting to a 28 day split season from Nov 4 to Nov 17 and Dec 16 to Dec 29 with one statewide zone. The change follows a 1916 treaty with Canada and a 1936 agreement with Mexico. bag limits were not announced. Waterfowl seasons for New Mexico and Oklahoma run Oct 7 to Oct 20 and Dec 23 to Jan 5.

Chief George Cooper reorganizes the Amarillo Fire Department naming Dewey Morris as assistant chief effective tomorrow. Two new district chiefs will head two fire districts while two more assistants are assigned general duties. Morris, who joined the department May 2 1921 and has served as assistant chief in 1930 and again since 1942, returns after a 1944 leave and a 1945 suspension that was later reinstated. The shakeup follows a petition by more than 60 firemen calling for Wilson's dismissal.

Boy 12 Hitches 230 Miles to Reunite With Dog

Continue Search For Lost Clovis Plane
The search for two Clovis pilots missing since Saturday centered in the Mosquero Ray area with 25 to 30 planes and riders active. Jimmie Gressett and John Hardesty, both 21 and 20, left Clovis for Eagle Nest and refueling at Wagon Mound but did not arrive. a Bell Ranch cowboy reported a plane matching the description seen near Conchas Lake with engine trouble. The parents posted a $500 reward for information leading to the discovery of the plane and crew.
