Highways Patrols Drive Texas Safety and Service

Twenty state police officers coordinate with local crews across Amarillo Childress Shamrock and other Panhandle counties. Night patrols curb drunken driving aid motorists and direct traffic during floods and tornadoes. Texas DPS evolved from a license and weight unit. Irvin S. Cobb to Attend Will Rogers Route Celebration

Noted humorist Irvin S. Cobb will join the Will Rogers route celebration in Amarillo August 15 through 17. Cobb travels from Santa Monica after discussing the plan with Leo Carrillo and Hollywood connections and will meet Governor James V. Allred during the event.

Northwest Texas Hospital bond petition nears completion

Harry Hatch says the petition to trigger a bond election for hospital improvements will likely be finished tonight. It requires about 1 000 signatures, ten percent of qualified voters, to be presented to the county commissioners for a vote on roughly 65 000 in bonds. If approved, the county would cooperate with the federal government in a 250 000 improvement program doubling hospital size and facilities. The coliseum at the fair grounds proposal remains under review, with bond-free funding and potential county sponsorship discussed alongside public works administration matching funds.

Farmers Flee as Raging Colorado Reaches Wharton

Wharton Texas faced a Colorado River flood that swelled to about 36 to 38 feet, inundating 30 000 acres in Wharton County and threatening 60 000 additional acres of crops. State highway workers moved ten families through flooded streets as roads were closed. Damages in the county approached 1 million dollars and statewide losses exceeded 3 million.

Russians Cross Border Battle Near Changkufeng

Gigantic air and sea hunt for missing Hawaii Clipper

A massive air and sea search was ordered for the Pan American Airways Hawaii Clipper missing between Guam and Manila with 18 passengers and nine crew aboard. Admiral Yarnell and the U S Asiatic fleet directed ships and planes to assist from Cavite and Manila. Passengers include Major Howard French and K A Kennedy among others. crew led by Captain Leo Terletsky. Weather showed scattered showers and heads winds, with fuel sufficient to stay aloft to 10 o clock Manila time.
