Lina Basquette, 25, swallowed poison after announcing engagement to Teddy Hayes, ex-trainer of Jack Dempsey. Police found her in agony with a note to "Jack" and doctors called her condition critical. Basquette previously attempted suicide.
The Chicago Board of Trade filed in the U S circuit court of appeals its appeal from the government decree suspending the board as a grain futures market for 60 days.

William A Bell, United Press staff correspondent, describes the day after the Bonus Army’s 7000 marchers were dispersed. The crowd, once organized and marching, became bewildered and angry, breaking into small groups driven back by gas, flame, and sabers as they sought shelter from the turmoil.
Maj George O Patton and his aide Joe Angelo fled Camp Marks as Patton’s cavalry advanced during the B E F drive. Angelo had previously saved Patton’s life in France about 14 years earlier when a shell struck nearby during a patrol and Patton was wounded.
Early yesterday a treasury order ordered 200 armored troops and infantry to evacuate a half demolished building on Pennsylvania Avenue 60. Walter W Waters urged peaceful leave but 80 soldiers stayed as a blue shirted man urged others to join. Police then entered with treasury agents to clear the scene. A large man was removed from the building by four officers as tensions rose.
The Reconstruction Finance Corporation advances its relief program after completing reorganization with Charles A. Miller of Utica named the last director. Miller will be president of the relief agency while Atlee Pomerene is slated as chairman.
Pittsburgh police report three Volpe brothers, alleged bootleggers, were shot to death in the Hill District street. The killings occurred today as an apparent mass slaying in a rogue bootlegging feud.
