Reports from the Korean front say an all-out Communist push to crack the Allied center could begin within 24 hours. Massed enemy forces strike at American divisions while South Korean units advance in the Hamchang area. The US First Cavalry and 25th Division brace for a major assault near Taegu as troops push toward Yongdong and Hamyang.
Fourteen contestants vie in the Miss something pageant at the Paramount Theater starting 7:30 PM with Bill Mack as emcee. Each contestant performs a three minute talent, with judges at the final event on Saturday night, followed by a dance to Bobby Burns Orchestra.

Gen Douglas MacArthur, after a 12 hour tour of Korea, returned to Tokyo confident of ultimate Allied victory. He cautioned that victory will come with hardships, but said he has never been more certain. He spoke at Eighth Army HQ after inspecting ground and air commands.
President Truman said at a news conference he is not considering using atomic bombs against North Korean Communists. He urged Congress to fund arms for free nations and hinted a request approaching five billion dollars. Military and diplomatic objections to A-bomb use in Korea were noted by authorities.
A new Panhandle rainfall update shows Amarillo above normal for the year with .55 inches at Amarillo Air Terminals and a year-to-date total of 12.00 inches. Vega reports 15.30 inches year to date, the wettest July on record for the area, as scattered showers persist with more expected tonight and tomorrow night.
