Washington July 27 The United States cut export prices for cotton by 1 cent per pound under a government subsidy to match foreign prices and reduce a 14 million bale surplus. Secretary Henry A Wallace said the plan will boost exports from 400000 to at least 16 million bales this year and cost 40 to 50 million dollars this fiscal year.
The Duke of Windsor protested to French officials against tourist boats cruising to view his private pool from the shore. Boats operated by a Cannes agency attract daily sightseers using field glasses to watch the Duke and Duchess bathe, despite the protest and a barrier attempt.
Ipswich July 27 The statue of Buddha delivered for exhibition at Dedham Arts School carried a legend that disaster would follow if removed from its pedestal. Students mocked the superstition and knocked Buddha to the floor. The school was burned, paintings destroyed, and the statue left undamaged.
Three burglary suspects escaped from Canyon jail after sawing through bars in a run around. Authorities in East Amarillo chased the trio Sam E. Williams Enrique Torres and Francisco Guerra who rode a freight train to Amarillo. One inmate Abundio Carmona refused to flee while a fifth prisoner was too drunk to act.

George H. Minchin is named Assistant General Manager of the Panhandle and Santa Fe Railway Company and the Southern District of the Santa Fe Western Lines with Amarillo headquarters. He succeeds F. L. Myers who recently retired, and the appointment was approved by W. K. Etter. Minchin, born July 20 1882 in Stringbrook Ontario, began as a station clerk at La Junta in 1902.
Bill Flenniken Amarillo city and club champion shot 69 to lead the Amarillo Country Club Invitational qualifiers. Jodie Bibl Lubbock led morning scoring with 72 while Barnes and Reynolds Smith posted solid rounds as nearly 100 players remained on the course.
