Two Burns Boys Drowned at Petersburg Lake
In Petersburg, Louis 11 and Don 13 Burns drowned this morning while swimming on Hegs farm lake four miles west of town. Their companions Gaylord Groce and Minter Mac Heard witnessed the tragedy as Louis and Don sank after efforts to rescue them. Search from Petersburg, Lubbock, and Plainview fire units continued at 12:30 PM with bodies not yet recovered.

City approves Thompson Park children amusement park
A five year contract for a new children's amusement park in Thompson Park is signed by City Manager N. V. Moss. Paul Gene Roads will operate the facilities starting August 6 with a miniature roller coaster boat ride and Kiddie bar ride. Admission is 9 cents for children and 14 cents for adults. The miniature train remains run by Cleo Barnes. The park sits on the hilltop north of the Thompson Park swimming pool near the Dumas Highway.
