A group of Tuberculosis Union students urged the university president be hanged, urging action as the governor and board of regents viewed the placard mockingly and kept a "hands off" policy.
A student convocation was called after a meeting of 49 campus groups. The group urged the regents to take immediate action, accusing the board of regents, president, faculty, and university of failing, while a placard read Thanks Regents. Blakeway noted a report from the Southern Association of Colleges was sought.
Former French premier Paul Reynaud testified that Marshal Petain colluded with Nazi Germany long before 1940, accusing him of plotting to seize power, opposing Maginot Line extensions, and hindering North Africa actions as France collapsed.

Senator Wheeler of Montana told the Senate he will vote for ratification of the United Nations Charter but will fight to limit the use of American troops. He argued the charter denies eastern and central Europe rights and fears the US may be silenced on war and peace issues. Wheeler would back the measure on assurances from John Foster Dulles about U S security council powers. Edward R. Stettinius Jr attended as the American delegate to the council.
Secretary of Agriculture Clinton P. Anderson said there would be no rationing of soap. He pledged a 100,000,000 pound increase in next year's supply of heavy duty laundry flakes chips and granulated soap. He said he would not authorize any soap rationing.
Potsdam reports say Churchill will travel to London for the British election results while Attlee and Eden may head to Potsdam if the Conservatives win. Stalin remains wary, with Byrnes and other officials continuing work as the conference resumes Friday.

Mexico announced purchase of 1500 freight cars and 52 locomotives for 20 million dollars under an agreement with Col. J. Monroe Johnson of the U S Office of Defense Transportation. About 5000 U S owned freight cars will remain in Mexico until September 14 for delivery of the new equipment.
