Germany issued a government decree ordering tax collectors to enforce payments strictly with penalties for late or faulty declarations. The measure, effective July 31, targets individuals and corporations with overdue income taxes and requires residents to surrender foreign currency to the Reichsbank by July 29 or face enforcement action.
Joliet Illinois July 22 Routine was being restored at the new state penitentiary at State ville after guards were summoned to thwart a reported plot to bomb the walls. Warden Henry C Hill said the 2 PM explosion time did not occur as 700 prisoners in the yard and 1 400 others in cells remained calm. Two guards planned furloughs as the transfer of insane convicts to Chester prison continued.
Rites for Dr. Morgan Ross Lee 66 died in a local hospital Tuesday afternoon were held at the Assembly of God Church at 3 30 conducted by Rev. J J Grubbs of Shamrock.
