Churchill reshuffles British government in July changes
Prime Minister Churchill overhauled his cabinet for the third time since May, sending Alfred Duff Cooper to the Far East as a special war coordinator and naming Brendan Bracken as minister of information. Duff Cooper, 51, leaves the inner war cabinet and gains the Duchy of Lancaster role. Lord Hankey becomes paymaster general and Richard Austen Butler rises to president of the board of education, with Ramsbotham moving to unemployment assistance and a baronage following Ramsbotham’s elevation. Critics say the reshuffle underscores a push to place younger men in senior roles while failing to appoint a production minister.
